Make a festive paper straw Christmas tree ornament with your kids. This easy Christmas craft makes a great keepsake.
Christmas is just around the corner. It’s the perfect time for some holiday crafting. Today, I want to share a super simple ornament you can make with your kids.
This paper straw Christmas tree ornament is easy, and it looks great hanging on the Christmas tree.
My son came home from school the other day with the sweetest Christmas craft. It was a little tree made from paper straws and a craft stick. He even glued a picture of himself to the tree.
I was so impressed with how simple and adorable it was. He was so proud of his work, and we hung it on our tree right away.

Supplies Needed
- Paper straws (red, green, or festive patterns work best)
- 1 jumbo craft stick
- Star sticker (or small craft star)
- Glue (hot glue works best, but school glue is fine too)
- Scissors
- String or ribbon
How to Make the Christmas Ornament
Step 1: Cut the Straws
Start by cutting the paper straws into different lengths. You’ll want them to go from short to long to create a triangle shape, like a Christmas tree. For example, you can cut the straw as wide as the craft stick and then each additional straw will be a little longer.
Step 2: Paint the Craft Stick
This step is optional. You can leave the craft stick the natural wood color or you can paint it. We painted our craft stick red.
Step 3: Add the Star
Stick the star at the top of the jumbo craft stick. If you don’t have a sticker, you can cut out a small star from paper or use any other craft embellishment.
Step 4: Glue the Straws
Lay the jumbo craft stick flat on your work surface.
Start by gluing the shortest straw piece across the craft stick at the top of the craft stick just under the star sticker. Continue gluing the straw pieces, working your way down to the longest piece until it looks like a tree.
Leave a little bit of the stick showing at the bottom for the tree trunk.
Step 5: Attach the String
Turn the craft stick over and glue a loop of string or ribbon to the back near the top. This will let you hang your ornament on the tree.
Step 6: Personalize It
For an extra special touch, you can add your child’s picture to the tree. Print a small photo and glue it to the center of the ornament. It makes a wonderful keepsake.
Let the Christmas tree ornament dry completely before hanging it on your Christmas tree.
