Fun New Year’s kids craft. Learn how to make festive party hats that are perfect for a New Year’s celebration with this DIY New Year’s hat.
This festive party hat craft can be used for a birthday party or Mardi Gras celebrations. We used leftover tissue paper from Christmas, which I love making upcycle crafts.
The kids loved decorating the strips for the hat. They love stickers and they enjoyed placing the stickers on the hat.
The kids needed help attaching the tissue paper cone to the cardstock strip. It can be tricky.
I hope you enjoy this New Year’s craft of DIY New Year’s hat. I can’t wait until New Year’s so we can wear these hats.

DIY New Year’s Hat Supplies:
- tissue paper
- cardstock paper
- scissors
- pencil
- glue stick
- crayons or markers
- stapler
- plastic jewels, glitter glue, stickers, etc to decorate the hat
DIY New Year’s Hat Instructions:
Step 1: Cut 4 same size triangles from the tissue paper. We made 2 white triangles and 2 blue triangles.
Step 2: Using the glue stick, put glue on the long edges of one triangle. Glue the long edges of the triangle pieces to each other. Glue the last pattern piece to the other free edges. This will make a cone shape. Do not glue the bottom edges. Let dry.
Step 3: Decorate one side of the cardstock strip with crayons, markers, plastic jewels, or stickers as you wish.
Step 4: Gently bend the cardstock strip into a circle that will comfortably fit your child’s head. Carefully staple the ends of the strip together.
Step 5: Use tape or a stapler to attach the bottom edge of the cone-shaped tissue paper piece around the inside of the cardstock ring.
I hope you enjoy making this New Year’s hat with your kids.
