This shamrock windsock makes a perfect St. Patrick’s Day craft. You probably already have the supplies to make this St. Patrick’s Day windsock.
Windsocks remind me of spring and nice weather. Today as we are making our shamrock windsocks for our St. Patrick’s Day craft, it is snowing. At least this St. Patrick’s Day windsock will remind me of spring.
This was an easy St. Patrick’s Day craft to make. We used a toilet paper roll from the recycling bin, a piece of scrap construction paper and leftover tissue paper from Christmas presents. I love crafts made from recycled material.
We decorated our windsocks with fingerprint shamrocks. Please check out my post on how to make fingerprint shamrocks for the directions.
My kids wanted to run around with their St. Patrick’s Day windsocks and pretend they are kites. At least they got some exercise on this snowy day. Do your kids like to pretend windsocks are kites, or are my children the only ones?

Shamrock Windsock Supplies:
- toilet paper tube
- green construction paper
- tape
- glue
- markers, crayons, or paint to decorate your windsock
- tissue paper
- scissors
- hole punch
- string
St. Patrick’s Day Windsock Instructions:
Attach green construction paper to toilet paper roll (I used tape). (For some reason, my green construction paper looks blue in this picture).
Decorate the toilet paper roll with shamrocks. I decorated the toilet paper tube with fingerprint shamrocks. You can also draw shamrocks.
Cut tissue paper into long strips with scissors. Glue the tissue paper strips to the inside bottom of the toilet paper roll.
Using a hole punch, punch 2 holes across from each other on the top of the toilet paper tube.
Put one end of the piece of string through the holes to make a loop. Tie the string to make a loop.
Hang your shamrock windsock in your window and enjoy.
I hope you enjoy making this St. Patrick’s Day windsock with your kids.
