This kids craft is a perfect way to use leftover craft supplies from another project. We used leftover jewel stickers and sequins from a Thanksgiving project (yes, we had them that long).

You could also use stickers, paint, or crayons to decorate your handprint butterfly craft.

Your child will work on fine motor skills by picking up and gluing the beads on the butterfly.

Let your kids use their imaginations with this craft. The butterfly wings and pom poms can be any color your kids would like.

I made these handprint butterflies with my son. He is a minimalist when it comes to art projects. He only wanted 3 sequins on each wing, and he didn’t want googly eyes.

Feel free to add more decorations to your butterfly craft.

That is what is so great about art. Everyone’s art project looks different.

Handprint Butterfly Instructions

Trace your child’s hands on construction paper. It can be any color. This will be the butterfly’s wings.

Cut out your child’s handprints from the construction paper.

Glue your child’s handprint onto another sheet of paper. I used light blue construction paper so it looked like the butterfly was flying in the sky. I also just glued the wrists of hands to the paper, so I could bend the hands up.

Next, glue pom poms in the center of the hands. This will be the butterfly’s body. I used 4 pom poms.

Decorate your butterfly. We used jewel stickers, but you can use what you have. You can use glitter glue, sequins, or markers to decorate.

Cut a chenille stem into 2 small pieces. I used a leftover piece of chenille stem from another project. Glue the small chenille stems behind the pom pom. This will be the butterfly’s antennae.

Ways To Modify This Craft

You can use your child’s painted handprint for the butterfly’s wings instead of tracing your child’s hand. Just paint your child’s hand and have your child press down on a sheet of paper in a butterfly pattern. Let the paint dry completely, then decorate your craft.
