Nature Suncatcher Craft Instructions
Step 1: Collect flowers and leaves.
Take a walk around your yard and collect flowers, leaves, grass or weeds from your yard. Before picking anything, ask your parents if it is okay.
It is best to pick only what you need for your craft. Also, plan to make your suncatcher soon after gathering your flowers, they start to wilt quickly.
Step 2: Make your suncatcher’s border.
On the construction paper, make a border for your suncatcher. This is optional, it just gives your suncatcher a finished look.
To make our construction paper border, we traced around a bowl for a circle shape. We then traced around a smaller bowl inside the larger circle. We then cut out our circle border.
To make it easier to cut out the center of the circle, gently fold the circle in half and then start cutting out the center.
Step 3: Prepare the contact paper.
Cut a square of contact paper slightly larger than your circle.
Peel off the paper backing from the contact paper. On the sticky side, add your construction paper border.
Step 4: Add the flowers and leaves.
Then, add your flowers and leaves to your sticky contact paper. My son quickly put his flowers on and my daughter took her time to make a pattern.
Step 5: Place contact paper on top of your nature suncatcher.
When finished adding flowers, the next step is to place contact paper on top. Cut another square of contact paper slightly larger than your nature suncatcher.
Peel off the back of the contact paper. Press the sticky side down, on top of your nature suncatcher. Press evenly to remove air bubbles.
Cut the extra contact paper from your suncatcher if needed.
Step 6: Put a hole in the top of the suncatcher.
Using a hole punch, put a hole in the top of the nature suncatcher. Put a piece of string or yarn through the hole and tie it in a loop to hang your suncatcher.
Step 7: Enjoy your nature suncatcher.
Hang your suncatcher in a sunny window and enjoy your nature suncatcher craft.
Ways To Modify This Craft
In the fall, you can make a suncatcher with colorful fall leaves. Just follow the steps above, except use leaves instead of flowers.
