Are you planning to go on a road trip? Keep your kids busy with a license plate scavenger hunt. It’s one of our favorite ways to pass the time in the car. It’s simple and fun.
Before our road trip, we print the scavenger hunt (it includes all 50 states). Then, as we travel, we look out the window and try to spot different license plates. When we see one, we check it off the list. Some states are easy to find. Others are rare and super exciting when we spot them.
This game works for short drives and long road trips. It keeps kids looking out the window instead of at screens.
We bring colored pencils and clipboards so the kids can write easily in the car. I also like to keep the printable in a page protector and use dry erase markers. That way, we can reuse it again on another trip.
To make it more fun, we turn it into a challenge. Who can find the most states? Can we find all 50 before the trip ends? Sometimes we even make up silly stories about where the cars with faraway plates are going.
It’s a great way to make road trips more fun. And it keeps everyone entertained without extra toys or supplies.
