This fireworks craft makes a festive Fourth of July decoration. It looks good hanging up at home or on a classroom bulletin board.

With younger kids, you can reinforce learning colors with this craft. You can say things like “can you make a yellow firework” or “what color is this firework”.

This craft is perfect to complete before seeing fireworks. To make a fireworks show less scary, you can talk about fireworks while making this craft.

Cut slits 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up the toilet paper tube. Depending on the age of the child, an adult can do the cutting. Fan out the slits by pushing down gently.

Next, pour different colors of paint on paper plates. Dip the end of the toilet paper tube into the paint and then press down on the black paper. You may need to move the cardboard tube roll.

A cardboard tube that has slits cut has been dipped in red and blue paint and pressed onto black paper.

Repeat dipping the toilet paper tube in your paint and then pressing it onto the black paper as many times as you like.

That’s it. You completed the cardboard tube fireworks craft. Let paint dry completely.

Ways To Adapt This Craft

We used red, white, and blue paint to make it a festive Fourth of July kids craft. Any paint colors will work.

We used a piece of black construction paper to look like the night sky, but you could use a sheet a white paper.
