Learn how to make a paper mosaic flag from scrap construction paper. This patriotic kids craft is perfect for Memorial Day, 4th of July or flag day.
I can’t believe that it is summer already. It seems just like yesterday I was making Christmas crafts. Time flies by so fast.
The kids will be out of school in 3 days. I am looking forward to summer just as much as they are. I love the warm weather and sunshine.
This flag craft was a great lesson about the American flag for my kids. As we were making the flag, we discussed that there are 13 stripes for the 13 colonies and 50 stars for the 50 states.
This would be a perfect craft for school to go along with a lesson about the American flag.
Easy flag craft for kids, preschoolers, as well as toddlers.

Paper Mosaic Flag Supplies:
- white paper
- red construction paper
- blue construction paper
- white washable paint
- Q-tip
- glue stick
- pencil
Paper Mosaic Flag Instructions:
Using a pencil, draw a flag shape on white paper. A flag has a square in the upper left corner and 13 stripes. I used a ruler to help me draw the flag. Depending on the age of your children, you may need to draw the flag shape.
Keep in mind, this is a kids craft and it doesn’t need to be perfect.
Tear the blue construction paper into small pieces. Tear the red construction paper into small pieces. Keep the blue pieces separate from the red pieces.
The pieces of construction paper don’t have to be the same size. If you don’t want to tear the construction paper, you can always cut the colored paper into small squares.
Next, glue the blue pieces of paper onto the square of your flag.
Then, glue the red pieces of construction paper onto the first stripe of your flag. Glue the red pieces of paper on every other stripe. Your flag should start and end with a red stripe.
Then, dip the Q-tip into the white paint. Using the Q-tip, add dots to the blue square to represent the stars.
I hope you enjoy making this paper mosaic flag craft with your kids.
