I have plenty of chenille stems (pipe cleaners) and pony beads on hand. When I was looking at them, I remembered the candy cane ornaments that I made when I was a kid. I think I made them in Girl Scouts.
This Christmas kids craft was the perfect craft to do during this slow afternoon. Both kids loved completing the beaded candy cane ornament the best.
If you are making this craft with a group, supply the kids with red and white chenille stems and red and white beads. Let their creativity and imagination take over.

Place the red chenille stem next to the white chenille stem.
Next, twist the two chenille stems together.
Then, bend the top of the twisted chenille stem to form a candy cane shape.

Bend up the bottom of the chenille stem, so the bead does not fall off. Put 1 red pony bead on the chenille stem.
Then, put 1 white bead on the chenille stem. Alternate between the red and white beads.
Continue alternating beads until the chenille stem is full of beads. Fold the top of the chenille stem, so the beads do not fall off.
Then, bend the top of the chenille stem to form a candy cane shape.
Hang your candy cane ornaments on your Christmas tree and enjoy.
