This craft is perfect for kids who love space and rockets.

The craft stick rocket is a great activity that complements books about space and space exploration. Children’s books about space can help kids develop an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields while also encouraging their imagination. Here are a few ways in which the craft stick rocket can go along with books about space:

  1. Inspiring Imagination: Books about space can inspire children to imagine what it might be like to travel to the stars, and the craft stick rocket can help bring those ideas to life. By making their own rocket, children can role-play as astronauts and go on imaginary missions to explore the cosmos.
  2. Hands-On Learning: Children’s books about space often introduce scientific concepts such as gravity, orbit, and the planets of our solar system.
  3. Encouraging STEM Interests: Books about space and the universe can help spark children’s interest in STEM fields. The craft stick rocket activity can further encourage that interest by allowing children to create their own rocket.

Step 3: Color and cut out the rocket shapes.

Using your favorite coloring medium (markers, crayons), color the rocket shapes from the free template. Then, cut out the rocket shapes.

Or you could use the shapes on the template as a stencil and cut out the shapes from colored cardstock.

Step 4: Tape the craft sticks together.

Tape the 2 painted craft sticks together. We found it easier to put a couple of pieces of tape on the back of 2 craft sticks (instead of glue) to hold them together.

Step 5: Glue the rocket shapes on your craft sticks.

Glue the smaller triangle to the top of the craft sticks.

Then, glue the larger triangle to the bottom of the craft sticks. Make sure this triangle is glued behind the craft sticks (this will be the fins of the rocket).

Glue the flames below the rocket.

Finally, glue the stars to the craft stick rocket.
