We made this fun craft at our local library, and I decided to share it with you. All you need to make this cactus craft are rocks, a small flowerpot and paint.

You can use rocks from your garden area, or you can purchase rocks at your local garden store or Amazon. We used acrylic paint to paint our rocks.

I love how these rock cacti look and they brighten up our living room. The best part is that I don’t have to remember to water them!

Painted rock cacti are a fun and creative way to add a touch of nature to your home. They make great decorations for offices, living rooms, or bedrooms. Plus, they’re a fun activity for kids to do during summer break or as a weekend project.

Painted Rock Cactus Supplies:

How To Make a Painted Rock Cactus

Step 1: Prepare your rocks for painting.

Collect a variety of rocks in different shapes and sizes. Rinse the rocks with water and let dry completely before painting.

Step 2: Paint your small clay pot.

Paint your small clay pot (this step is optional). I painted my clay pot a light teal color and my daughter painted her pot pink and yellow with designs. Let your painted flowerpot dry completely.

Step 3: Add the paper to the flowerpot.

Depending on the size of your flowerpot, crumple 1 or 2 sheets of paper and place inside your flowerpot. You should not be able to see the paper sticking out of the flowerpot. This provides a base for your rock cactus to sit on.

The color of the paper doesn’t matter because it will not show when the rock cactus garden is complete.

Step 4: Paint your rocks.

Use shades of green paint to paint the rocks. Allow the paint to dry completely before adding more layers.

You can add details such as white spots, brown spines, and other designs to create a cactus-like appearance.

Also, you can paint some smaller rocks different colors such as red, yellow, or pink to represent the cactus flowers.

Let paint dry completely.

Step 5: Hot glue your rocks together.

This step is also optional. You can hot glue 2 rocks together to make a bigger cactus. Also, you can hot glue the smaller colorful rocks to the top of the green rocks.

Step 6: Arrange your painted rock cacti.

Arrange your painted rock cacti in your small flowerpot. Proudly display your creation on a shelf or table.
