Get ready for a springtime craft with our adorable cotton ball painted chick. Follow our easy steps to create a cute Easter or spring decoration.
This cute painted chick makes a perfect craft for spring or Easter. These would look great hanging on a bulletin board or on a card.
Kids love painting with items other than paint brushes. We decided to paint with cotton balls to make this adorable chick craft.
We placed the cotton ball in a clothespin to make painting easier. That way my kids could just hold onto the clothespin instead of the cotton ball. Don’t worry if you don’t have a clothespin. Your child can hold onto the cotton ball to paint the chick.
We painted an oval pattern for our chick, but you could paint any shape. If your child is learning different shapes, you can ask your child to paint different shapes of chicks.

- Cotton balls
- Clothespin (optional)
- Yellow paint
- White paper
- Googly eyes
- Orange construction paper
- Glue
- Orange marker
How to Make a Chick Craft
Step 1: Prepare Your Cotton Ball
If you have a clothespin, place a cotton ball inside it. This will make it easier for little hands to hold while painting. If not, no worries. You can hold the cotton ball between your fingers just as well.
Step 2: Dip and Dab
Dip the cotton ball into the yellow paint. Ensure it’s evenly coated but not dripping. Then, dab the painted cotton ball onto a piece of white paper making an oval shape. This will be the body of your chick. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Step 3: Add the Eyes and Beak
Once the paint has dried, use glue to attach two googly eyes to your chick. Position them towards the top of the oval shape.
Cut a small diamond shape from the orange construction paper. Fold it in half to create a beak shape. Then, glue it onto the chick, just below the eyes.
Step 4: Draw Legs
Using an orange marker, draw two legs and feet from the bottom of the oval shape.
Enjoy Your Chick Craft
Once all the glue and paint have dried, your adorable cotton ball painted chick craft is ready to be displayed. Whether it’s as a cheerful Easter decoration or a spring craft, this adorable chick is sure to bring a smile to everyone who sees it.
Craft Tips
- Encourage creativity by letting kids experiment with different colors for their chicks. Pastel shades like pink or blue can add variety to your springtime flock.
- If you don’t have googly eyes on hand, you can always draw eyes onto the chick using a black marker.
- Experiment with different sizes of cotton balls to create chicks of varying sizes. A family of chicks in different sizes would make a charming display.
