How to make Christmas card ornaments using recycled cards

I love receiving Christmas cards in the mail. It is a way to keep in touch with old friends from school, old coworkers and family that moved away.

I don’t know about you, but I hate throwing away those gorgeous Christmas cards. It seems so wasteful, especially when they are so decorative.

Try making this easy Christmas card craft with your kids instead of throwing away those holiday cards. Turn those cards into festive ornament balls to decorate your Christmas tree.

Also, makes a great gift for family and friends. Your friends will love to see their Christmas cards upcycled.

To begin this craft, start by selecting 5 holiday cards. You can let your kids pick out their favorite cards.

Next, use a cup, small bowl, or anything round to trace circles on your cards. We used a biscuit cutter for our circle stencil. Depending on the design, you may be able to get 2 circles per one card.

Keep in mind that the design that is inside your circle stencil will be the design on your ornament.

Cut out your circles from your cards. You will need 5 circles.

To hang your upcycled ornament, you can use string, yarn, or any ribbon you have available. We used red yarn because that is what we had.

When gluing your card half circles together, make sure your pictures are upright.

Let the glue dry completely before hanging your handmade upcycled Christmas ornament.

Upcycled Ornament Instructions

Use a cup or anything round to trace five circles on decorative Christmas cards.

Next, using scissors, cut out the circles.

Then, fold each circle in half so the picture is on the inside.

Put glue on one of the back halves of the folded circle (do not put glue on the colorful design). We used a glue stick. Press half of another folded circle onto the glued area

Then, put glue on the other half of the second circle and press it on the third circle. Then put glue on the third circle half and press on the fourth circle.

Put a line of glue down the center of the ornament. Place the piece of yarn that is folded in half in the glue that is in the center of the ornament. Place the yarn so it forms a loop to hang on the Christmas tree.

Then, glue the last folded circle in place to make a round, ball shape. Let glue dry completely.

Enjoy your card ornament ball. These Christmas card ornaments look lovely hanging on a Christmas tree
