Make a friendly bat from an old sock. Makes a great Halloween decoration. Fun bat Halloween craft.
I have tons of Christmas decorations and a few Halloween decorations. I noticed last year that decorating for Halloween is very popular. Do you decorate for Halloween?
I decided this year to make Halloween decorations. I think it will be fun crafting experiences for me and the kids. What Halloween decorations did you make this year?
I have a lot of socks without matches. Inevitably, one sock will get a hole in it and my family tends to throw one sock away and keep the other sock. These “extra” socks are perfect for crafts.
I hope you enjoy making this stuffed sock bat for a Halloween craft. I had fun placing the bat in different spots around the house. The bat was peeking from behind a plant on the fireplace and it was also hanging from a door handle.
I had to help my kids a lot with this bat craft. This was a family craft in that we all worked on it together.

Sock Bat Craft Supplies
- 1 old black sock
- crumbled newspaper or gift wrap tissue paper to stuff the sock
- scissors
- glue
- black construction paper
- 2 googly eyes
- red yarn
- black yarn or black string
Sock Bat Craft Instructions
Stuff the foot of a black sock with crumpled newspaper or crumbled gift wrap tissue paper. I used leftover gift wrap tissue paper.
Tie the end of the sock with black yarn or black string. I used black string.
Cut the excess end of the sock if desired. Do not cut the excess string (this will be used to make a loop to hang your bat).
Then, tie the two ends of the black yarn that was used to tie the sock, so that you make a loop to hang your bat.
Draw or trace wing shapes on black construction paper. You will need 2 wings. Cut out the wings.
Next, glue the 2 wings to the back of your stuffed sock so that they stick out on each side of the sock.
Then, glue googly eyes on the toe end of the sock. Then, glue a small piece of red yarn on the sock for the bat’s mouth.
I hope you enjoy making this Halloween sock bat craft with your kids.
