We just finished making the festive paper plate shamrock wreaths, and we had several shamrocks leftover. I spent a couple of days thinking about what to make with the leftover shamrocks.

We decided to use the shamrocks to make shamrock resist art. It is a simple St. Patrick’s Day art project for kids.

Resist art just means that you resist the paint. Some people also refer to it as positive and negative space in art. In this shamrock craft, we used paper to resist the paint.

As an added bonus, when we were finished making this craft, we now have rainbow shamrocks to hang up and decorate the house for St. Patrick’s Day.

How To Make Resist Art Shamrocks

Please watch the video tutorial below on how to make resist art shamrocks.

First, you will need to print a free shamrock template. We used different sizes of shamrocks for our project.

Cut out the shamrock template.

Then use painter’s tape to tape the shamrock to paper (roll the painter’s tape to put the tape on the back of the shamrock). We used light green construction paper.

Next, paint around your shamrocks. Be careful, you don’t want to get paint underneath the shamrock. We painted a rainbow pattern around our shamrocks.

The shamrocks that are taped to the green construction paper are painted a red and orange stripe.

Carefully remove your shamrocks.
