This shape turkey craft is also an educational tool for helping kids learn their shapes. Simply ask your child what shape each part of the turkey is. Or you can ask your child how many rectangle feathers does your turkey have?

You can also use this Thanksgiving craft to teach colors to younger children. Ask your child what color the turkey’s body is and what color the feathers are.

This craft can be made two different ways. The first way is to use the free printable shape turkey template as a guide to cut out the shapes out of different colored construction paper. This is the method we used to make this craft.

The other way is to print the free printable and then have your child color in the shapes. Then, cut out the colored shapes and use them to make the turkey.

How to Make a Shape Turkey

Step 1: Print the Template.

First, you’ll need to print out the free shape turkey template. To print the template, click on the link below.

Step 2: Cut Out the Shapes.

Use the shape template as a stencil to cut out the different shapes from the construction paper.

Step 3: Assemble the Turkey.

First, glue the small circle onto the larger circle body. This will be your turkey’s head and body.

The small brown circle is glued to the larger circle to make the turkey's had and body.

Next, attach the triangle feet to the bottom of the circle body.

Then, glue the rectangle feathers onto the circle body.

Next, glue on the circle eyes on the circle head.

Then, attach the triangle beak just below the eyes.

Then, add the oval waddle (the little red thing that hangs down from the beak). Gently stick it right under the beak.

Ways to Modify this Turkey Craft

Feel free to get creative with your turkey’s colors and decorations. You can use different shades of construction paper to make a rainbow turkey or add some glitter for some extra sparkle. Or you can add googly eyes.

Instead of making your turkey out of construction paper, your child can color the template. Then cut out the colored shapes and follow the instructions above to make the turkey.
