This easy Monet inspired water lilies art project will help you create a masterpiece worthy of hanging on your wall.
I love Claude Monet’s artwork and his water lilies are my favorite. When my kids made a similar art project at the library, I knew I had to share it.
Water lilies is a series of oil paintings by Claude Monet. The paintings are of his flower garden at his home.
During this craft, we talked about the artist Monet and also about how all artwork doesn’t have to look the same.
I love how each art piece is different and unique.
My water lily art project does not look like my son’s or daughter’s artwork. And that is okay.
Simply, provide instructions to your kids and then let their creativity flow.

Monet Inspired Water Lilies Supplies:
- white paper
- glue
- water
- paintbrush
- tissue paper (blue, green, purple, pink)
- scissors
Monet Inspired Water Lilies Instructions:
Cut tissue paper into strips. You can either use straight edged scissors or wavy edged. I used wavy edged scissors to help it look like water.
Mix 2 parts glue to 1 part water in a paper cup. Paint glue mixture onto white paper.
Place strips of tissue paper on the white paper with glue mixture. Yes, this can get messy and sticky.
Cut lily pads from green tissue paper. The lily pad shape is a circle with a piece cut out (It reminds me of Pac Man). I used different shades of green.
Using the glue mixture, apply lily pads to project.
Crumple small pieces of pink, purple, white tissue paper. These will be the lily pad’s flowers. Use glue mixture to apply to lily pads.
Apply a thin layer of the glue mixture over your art project. Let dry completely. Cut any excess strips of tissue paper.
I hope you enjoy making this Monet inspired water lilies craft with your kids.
Ways To Adapt This Craft
For a less messy craft, you can use strips of construction paper instead of tissue paper. You can use a glue stick to glue the construction paper to the white paper.
