Ladybug craft for kids

My kids love collecting bugs, especially ladybugs.

Two weeks ago, my son came home from school with a living ladybug in his hand. He was super excited.

When I asked him if he found the ladybug on the bus, he said no. He found it at lunch recess on the slide.

I was impressed. He held onto the ladybug during school and on the bus ride home and it was still alive.

I knew we had to make a ladybug craft. I was inspired by a similar craft my daughter made in kindergarten.

Fun Facts About Ladybugs

Here are some ladybug facts that you can discuss with your kids while you are making the craft. I love turning a craft into a learning activity.

Ladybugs are insects called beetles. They have 6 legs.

Ladybugs will “play dead” which means they sit very still when they think they are in danger.

About This Ladybug Craft

This ladybug craft is so easy to make. The tissue paper squares don’t have to be exact and they can be glued on the paper in any order.

It is a great craft to use scrap tissue paper and scrap construction paper.

My daughter’s favorite part was using her fingerprints for the ladybug’s spots. She loves finger painting.

Ways To Adapt This Craft

Instead of gluing tissue paper for the background, your child can color the background green. Depending on the age of your child, it may be easier to color than glue tissue paper.

You can use a pencil eraser dipped into the black paint for the black dots on the ladybug. This is less messy than using your child’s finger to paint the ladybug’s dots.
