My son brought home this cute paper groundhog from school. I knew I had to share it on Craft Corner DIY because it is so adorable.
This would be a perfect craft to go along with a lesson about groundhog’s day.
Here is the legend of Groundhog Day. If the groundhog sees it’s shadow, there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If the groundhog doesn’t see it’s shadow, there will be an early spring.

Groundhog Day Craft Supplies:
- paper plate
- brown construction paper
- white paper
- green crayon
- black crayon
- glue stick
- pencil
- scissors
- googly eyes
Groundhog Day Craft Instructions:
Step 1: Cut a paper plate in half and color it green.
Step 2: On the brown paper, draw half an oval shape for the groundhog’s body. Draw 2 small circles for the ears and 2 thin half ovals for the arms. Cut out these shapes.
Step 3: Next, glue the arms and ears to the groundhog’s body.
Step 4: Then, glue on googly eyes.
Step 5: Cut out a small circle from black construction paper. This will be the groundhog’s nose.
Step 6: Next, glue the black nose onto groundhog.
Step 7: Then, cut out a small rectangle from the white paper. Draw a black line down the center of the rectangle. This will be the groundhog’s teeth.
Step 8: Glue the groundhog’s teeth onto the groundhog.
Step 9: Then, glue the groundhog to the green 1/2 paper plate.
Step 10: Finally, fold up the groundhog so it looks like he is peeping out of the ground.
