We made this craft stick pumpkin to go with the book The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. This is an easy Halloween craft for kids and it makes a cute pumpkin.
My kids love the book The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. It teaches kids that it is okay to be different. We haven’t seen the movie yet, hopefully this Halloween season we will see it.
This pumpkin kids craft is so easy to make. To make this craft easier, you can use craft sticks that are already painted orange.
I was so excited when I discovered painted craft sticks. It helps when my kids want to craft while I make dinner and I don’t want the mess.
We used orange acrylic paint to paint these popsicle sticks. Washable orange paint will also work.
If your kids are painting the craft sticks, it can get messy with little kids. Just make sure you are painting them over paper.

Craft Stick Pumpkin Supplies
- 10 Craft Sticks
- Orange paint
- Green paint
- Paint brush
- Glue
- Yellow or black construction paper
- Scissors
Craft Stick Pumpkin Instructions
Paint 8 craft sticks orange. You only need to paint the front (my kids wanted to paint both sides). Let paint dry completely.
Next, paint 1 craft stick green. Let paint dry completely.
Then, line up the 8 orange craft sticks vertically, so the edges are touching. On the back of the craft sticks, glue 1 craft stick diagonally across all of the craft sticks. This will hold all of the craft sticks together.
On the back of the orange craft sticks, glue 1 green craft stick so that part of the edge is sticking up past the edges of the orange craft stick. This will be the stem of the pumpkin. We placed it in the center.
Then, turn your craft stick pumpkin over, so you are now looking at the front of the pumpkin.
Cut out eyes and a mouth from the yellow or black construction paper.
Glue the eyes and mouth on the front of your craft stick pumpkin.

You can use pre-painted orange craft sticks instead of painting your craft sticks orange.
