Craft up some Halloween magic with our paper plate cat craft for kids. A purr-fectly delightful Halloween craft featuring paper plates, googly eyes, and lots of fun.
Halloween is that magical time of year when creativity comes alive, and what better way to spark your child’s imagination than with a spooktacular craft project? This simple paper plate cat craft is not only simple to put together, but it is also fun to make.
Once upon a crisp and colorful October morning, Lisa, a devoted mom, decided it was time for some Halloween crafting. She knew just the craft project that would get her little ones excited: the paper plate cat.
With enthusiasm bubbling, she gathered her supplies – a stack of plain paper plates, black paint, brushes, googly eyes, glue, scissors, and some colored construction paper.
As she set up her crafting station, her two children, Bailey and Kyle, bounced into the room, their faces lighting up at the sight of the paint pots and googly eyes. “What are we making today, Mom?” Bailey asked.
Lisa smiled, holding up a paper plate as if it were the key to a magical kingdom. “We’re going to make paper plate cats! The purr-fect Halloween craft!” she declared.
They started their craft with excitement. The paper plates were transformed into black plates as they painted them a deep, black.
Next came the ears – two tiny triangles, one pink and one black. Lisa showed them how to glue the pink triangle onto the black one, creating adorable cat ears.
Chenille stems were next on the agenda, and the kids eagerly twisted them together in the middle. Lisa helped them attach the stems to their paper plates, explaining that these were going to be the cat’s whiskers.
A pom-pom made the perfect nose, and with a dab of glue, the feline features began to take shape. Two googly eyes were added to the plates, giving the cats a playful personality.
As they finished their paper plate cats, Lisa couldn’t help but admire the results. Each cat was unique, reflecting the personality of its creator.
With their paper plate cats complete, they proudly displayed them around the house. One cat guarded the fridge, and another watched over the dining table.

How to Make a Paper Plate Cat
Step 1: Paint it black.
Start by painting your paper plate entirely black. Let the paint dry completely.
Step 2: Make two ears.
While your plate is drying, grab your black and pink construction paper. Cut out two triangles – one black and one pink. The black triangle should be slightly larger than the pink one. These triangles will become your cat’s ears.
Then, glue the pink triangle on top of the black triangle.
Step 3: Glue on the ears.
Next, glue the triangles onto the top of the paper plate.
Step 4: Make the whiskers.
Grab three chenille stems and twist them together in the middle, creating a whisker shape. Then, glue these whiskers onto the center of the paper plate. We found it easier to tape the whiskers into place.
Step 5: Add the nose.
Right at the center of the chenille stems, glue on a cute little pom-pom. This pom-pom will serve as your cat’s nose.
Step 6: Add the eyes and the mouth.
Last but not least, glue two googly eyes onto the paper plate, giving your cat a pair of friendly eyes.
Using a white colored pencil or a white paint pen, draw a mouth on your paper plate cat.
I hope you enjoy making this paper plate cat with your kids.
